The Playground Pavilion

£16,590 has been raised from 93 donors.

The pandemic has also enabled us to take stock around our plans to build a new home for sport at Durham School. The Playground, our hallowed sports ground, has been the central focus for physical activities at the School since the 1840s, and generations of Old Dunelmians developed lifelong passions for sports as diverse as Cricket, Pentathlon, Athletics and Rugby there.

It is this commitment to lifelong health and wellbeing that we want to put at the heart of the new pavilion. Our sporting history will be celebrated while providing a focus for pupils to develop the soft skills of teamwork and resilience that make such a difference to our wellbeing.

The new pavilion will provide modern age-appropriate changing facilities for a range of sports including Cricket, Rugby and Hockey and which are enjoyed by both boys and girls across the School. It will also provide a central meeting place for teams, sports teaching and now will also provide a physical base for our Wellbeing Programme.

As we focus on reshaping the School in a post-Covid environment, there has never been a more important time to support sport and activity at Durham School.
